There is true beauty in the motion of chaos. I am determined to capture it. Just for a glimpse. Not with the intention to cage it in a frame, but to understand it; moment by moment; its vibrant color, its random blur.
As uncertainty is the only certainty in life, I am not looking for answers, but for questions. I am looking for questions about my humanity and my perception. Sometimes I am surprised with an answer, but then that means that I must move on to new questions.
That is why I most often prefer my subjects not to be aware that I’m taking pictures or at least not prepared. Even when I am taking headshots of actors am I looking for the ‘in-between’ moments.
I am looking for the breath, the exhale, attraction in the eyes to an external and uncontrollable force; I am looking for the random moment when one is suddenly and briefly captured by a fleeting thought. I find it useful to shoot headshots on crowded city streets so their presents itself plenty of opportunity for the actor or subject to be challenged or whisked away by a brief interlude with chaos. That is when I click! That is when people come alive, that brief moment between focus and distraction; when one is less aware of the self and more interested in the driving force of nature.
